A Satellaview research blog.

“Boy, this is really expensive” – Stuff I’ll probably never manage to get.

So, earlier today I was out-bid on yet another auction. What was it this time?

A set of BS F-Zero booklet and winning certificate papers, with a Bucky Koba autograph. Sold for 21,000円 yen.

It seems like it’d be a pretty awesome collector’s piece to get. Hopefully whoever has won it will take good care of it and is willing to share it’s contents.

One other highly expensive item I’ve seen…. been up for months, in fact, on Rakuten.

Konae-chan calling card on Rakuten Auctions, listed as going for 220,000円 yen and not yet budging in price.

Also, pretty much any Satellaview Tsushin magazine, such as this one. They all tend to start out at over 10,000円 yen pr above and rarely drop below 7,000円 yen. The last time a whole lot of magazines appeared the price went up over 30,000円 yen easy.

There’s bound to be a lot more unique items that can go for prices such as these, as well. Archiving the info is tough…

Apologies for belated ROM release; please don’t Tsuu me.

I’m gonna start this with a little note that due to some other, non-Satellaview events going on, I probably won’t update much through the first half of August if at all. Ok, so I suppose I have went longer without an update, but still

I’m also gonna apologize to ChronoMoogle, since because of my mixture of procrastination and distraction he’s been on my case about the ROMs I’ve been obviously holding back. And I kinda still am, because this only has one of them so far, and not even the one I teased earlier. Tsk, bad, bad Kiddo!

Anyhow, time to put out a ROM release.

More St.GIGA audio pieces.

I hadn’t done a good search on “St.GIGA” on Youtube or NicoNicoDouga for a good… 3 months, now, was it?

Tsk, I’m behind!

And what’s worse for me is that there’s a good amount of back catalog to catch up on!

Let’s start with this Youtube upload by cocoademon21:

ROM Tease + A bit of “Twilight Street Kids” info.

I wanted to do another teaser for a future ROM release, but unfortunately I’m having problems taking decent screenshots of the ROM I’m referring to in question. (Emulation issues, basically!)

I do, however, have an alternate, slightly more vague thing to show. A site article that’s related to what I got in question.

The site is here.

Satellaview World Character Highlight: The King of Subcon and The Commander.

So, here’s an idea for a set of articles… talking about some of the characters made specifically for Satellaview games. How will that work? Using what little I know, really. Hur.

Yes, it’s an excuse to pad for posts, but hopefully it’s a good, informative one.

This time I’m gonna write what little I can understand of The King of Subcon from “BS Super Mario USA” as well as his tag-along pairing, the Commander.

I’m also gonna cheat a bit, because I got some help on this.
also here.

Anyhow, BS Super Mario USA is, to the best of anyone’s knowledge (There might still be some really old promotional material for the Famicom version that might’ve been lost?), the only appearance of the King of Subcon and the Commander.

From what I can tell of what’s been translated for BS Super Mario USA, he seems mostly archtypical besides the usual Mario gameplay gimmicks. Sure, he and the Commander give powerups and whatnot, but for the most part it seems to be an excuse to have more seiyuu on a project. Or to be exposition characters.

However, there is one thing in particular that kinda makes me wonder…

… “The King’s Casino”. I mean, wow.
What kind of King just… publicly runs a casino? I can only assume that deep down, the ethical values of Subcon are really, really screwed up. Perhaps that may explain Birdo’s, um, nature…

… This could probably use some improvement, huh? Anyhow, I hope I can get more Soundlink archives for BS Super Mario USA sometime.

New (Bad) ROM redump: What’s wrong with this Excitebike?

A few days back a “Matthew Dickenson” tossed a $20 into my Paypal, so you can thank him for this one. Well, sorta, anyway. I wanted to give him credit for a donation, anyhow!

This ROM does not appear to be any good for playing, but…

Bad(?) Excitebike: Bunbun Mario Battle 1 ROM

The weird thing about this ROM is that, trying to compare it with the current circulating ROMs, it doesn’t appear to have any resemblance to them. Do any experienced hackers want to pry into this?
