For a while, I’ve been trying to look up some of the personalities associated with the Satellaview – mostly for the programs they were associated with in the service itself, as well as a sampling of some of their other contents.
This article should have some nice bits about the Comedian Hikaru Ijuin. Proper Japanese spelling 伊集院光.
You’ve probably seen that name on this blog already. That’s because Hikaru Ijuin is the host of
伊集院光の放課後の王様 (“Hikaru Ijuin’s After School King”)
as well as
伊集院光の怪電波発信基地 (Was never quite sure, but I think now it’s meant to be “Hikaru Ijuin’s Bizarre Radio Signals”)
Of which I put some of the episodes up on here. In fact, it seems I may have indeed put up all of “After School King” – according to the Japanese Wikipedia that program aired from 95-96, while the latter show aired from 96-97.
He’s had a long history of other programming, sandiwching his two Satellaview programs like giant-size buns that make you ask where the beef is.
In both of the programs, Ijuin and his guests, Laughing Group (笑組) – would voice out ongoing serial comic skits during set time intervals, each consisting of a thematic “gag”, like the Reverse Funny Aneuryism “Dragon Quest IX” skits, or skits involving sexy girl voices.
Rather certain now that that kind of stuff, Nintendo would no longer let fly.
Hikaru Ijuin has quite a lot of his content uploaded on NicoNicoDouga – in fact, for all the Satellaview radio I’ve got, there’s nearly double in terms of unrelated radio shows. Most of the stuff is more his recent works than his past works, however.
