Super Nintendo Console Database

An ongoing documentation of SNES console serials with technical and "historical" information about them.

Not strictly limited to consoles, listing Satellaview, Life Fitness, and other serial numbers you think fit.

How, Where and Why to Find Your Console's Info

Why should I add my console or try to find my chip versions?

The difference between chip revisions are not very well documented. To quote & paraphrase byuu, BSNES author:

From what I know, we've only ever observed 1/1/1 and 2/1/3, although I seem to recall someone saying they've seen another... if so, it's exceptionally rare. And unfortunately the chip version numbers are no longer enough. Nintendo stopped incrementing the revision numbers after they eliminated the separate APU module. The 1-chip may well have minor differences from the 2-chip, but I do not know for certain if that is the case. What I do know is that the Super Famicom Jr / SNES Mini is listed as 2/1/3, but is honestly more of a clone system. There are "drastic" changes. Not so much stuff that's going to affect most games directly, but stuff that tells you the chip is radically different on the inside. Things like the SMP Timer Glitch vanishing, different behaviors of the TEST register, some DSP subtleties, the PPU being entirely different, and mid-scanline effects are totally different which affects games like A.S.P. Air Strike Patrol where the plane's shadow is almost invisible.

Where do I find my console's serial?

On the bottom of the console, reguardless of region you will find a label with the serial. Between region the serial format and exact location will vary slightly but they will match a format below:
 • Europe: UP########
 • Japan: S#######
 • USA: UN#########
 • Satellaview: BS10######

Where do I find my console's CPU / PPU versions?

This is a little bit difficult to find, but greatly appreciated as part of your console's entry. The versions are listed on the top of the chips themselves, but this is difficult to get to, alternatively you can use the methods below to find the versions.

• Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest: at the menu screen press START and SELECT at the same time and you should then get a box listing versions (US only, version 1.0 only).
• The Lion King: At the options screen enter the keys B A R R Y and a debug menu will appear with the chip versions.
• Devil's Course Golf / Wicked 18: Select "Create Data" (fourth item on the first menu), then "Register" (first item on the second menu). In the 10th slot, enter the name "T&ESOFT". From now on, you can hold L+R while powering on the game to access the self-test. (Thanks to BMF54123 for this info!)
Alternatively this can be accessed by changing ROM address 0x108 from 0x38 to 0x18 to boot a test mode which lists the chip versions (Japanese version only).
• Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story: Go to the "Options" menu, highlight the "Difficulty" option, and quickly press L, A, R(2), Y. From the new Debug menu, go to "Show Statistics", then press select.

Where do I find more of my console's info?

This is for the hardcore, but there is more distinctive info inside the console. You can find the PCB board date / revision number (1990/SHVC-CPU-01), APU sticker number, etc. This is also a little difficult to find, but still greatly appreciated if you can enter it in your notes.
