2012: A Year in Satella-review

I think I’ve decided that, starting from this year, the end of the year will conclude with a summary of the year of some kind.

I’ll start this with looking back at the New Year’s Resolutions. Obviously enough, we didn’t get all of them. I’ll reference any that were notable this year, though;

“Rest of Kouryaku Casino Bar” – While we didn’t grab all of them, we did grab two more.

“Rest of RPG Tsukuru SUPER DANTE standalone games” – We managed to grab “Cock-A-Doodle-Doo”, leading to one of the notable milestones of the year.

All the rest still need to be done and will be moved into the next year’s resolutions.

Next, I’ll make note of any major milestones.

To start, obviously, are some new emulators.
no$sns, bsnes-sx2 and snes9x-sx2 have made dramatic strides to improve Satellaview emulation. Also, the sd2snes has given SNES owners a chance to play many Satellaview games on their hardware in a manner closer to the way they were meant to be played.

We learned that some outright bizarre hidden content can be unearthed from the ROMs. We can also hack a certain one pretty dramatically.

In a rather shocking swerve, we’ve learned that It’s perfectly possible to dump a revision of an already dumped game with different code, ranging from ads to actual game rule changes.

We’ve got a bit of a closer taste of how clean Satellaview Soundlink sounds.

Among other ROM dumps, we’ve explored elaborate demos,, unearthed a few lost tidbits of the narrative of BS-X, confirmed the existence of indie-gaming on the Satelaview, and finally grabbed some RPG Tsukuru 2 data that wasn’t homebrew.

Meanwhile, over at The BS Zelda Homepage, Madhatter confirmed the Satellaview to have a lot of demos, FireBrandX restored a rare piece of BS Zelda music, and of course, the hack projects are always better than they’ve ever been before.

Wow, that’s quite a lot considering that I hardly scratched two of my resolutions, huh?

Sometimes as I delve deeper and deeper into this, I wonder if I’m in over my head. But then again, if that is the case, then that is where I need to be to get the job done, right?

I hope to have even more for everyone next year. And the year after that. And… yeah, you know what I mean.

Of course, it may not be so simple, considering I’m also planning to prepare for something else next year…

It’ll be the 20th Anniversary of the Sega Pico. That means I need to do something for the Pico Palace, stat!
